Previous Governments Betrayed Punjabis and Martyrs: Kejriwal
75 Years of Independence, Yet Martyrs’ Dreams Remain Unfulfilled
Notorious Drug Lords Jailed, Punjab’s Anti-Drug Campaign Strengthened
Commitment to Follow in the Footsteps of Martyrs and Freedom Fighters
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener Arvind Kejriwal reiterated their resolve to fulfill the dreams of martyrs by ensuring the welfare of all sections of society. Speaking at an event in Shaheed Udham Singh Wala, after laying the foundation stone for development projects worth ₹85 crore, they outlined their vision for a prosperous Punjab.
Arvind Kejriwal’s Address
Kejriwal paid tribute to Shaheed Udham Singh, who sacrificed his life to free India from colonial oppression. He expressed pride in attending the event honoring the martyr, emphasizing that countless freedom fighters gave their lives to create an equitable society that uplifts the marginalized. However, he lamented that 75 years after independence, the dreams of martyrs remain unfulfilled due to the greed and corruption of past governments.
Kejriwal accused previous administrations of looting Punjab’s treasury and fostering drug addiction and corruption, which devastated the state. He criticized political leaders for prioritizing personal gains over public welfare, leading to dilapidated schools and hospitals. He highlighted how these leaders fueled the drug menace, destroying generations of youth.
Praising Punjab’s anti-drug campaign, Kejriwal commended the state government for breaking the backbone of the drug mafia. He noted that notorious drug lords, previously untouchable due to their political influence, have been jailed, setting a historic precedent. He assured that strict action will continue against those who ruined Punjab’s youth, with no one involved in this heinous crime being spared.
Kejriwal highlighted the revolutionary changes under Mann’s leadership, including upgraded schools, revamped hospitals, canal water reaching farmers, and the construction of 20,000 km of rural roads. He emphasized that Punjab’s honest government is using every penny wisely to realize martyrs’ dreams, with no shortage of funds for public welfare. He cautioned that if Congress or Akali-BJP return to power, their corrupt practices would derail Punjab’s progress.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s Address
Mann reaffirmed the government’s duty to honor martyrs by fulfilling their vision. He stressed that naming airports, universities, and institutions after martyrs like Shaheed Udham Singh preserves their legacy. He recounted how Udham Singh avenged the Jallianwala Bagh massacre by killing Sir Michael O’Dwyer in London’s Caxton Hall, targeting a collaborator of the British regime.
Mann criticized a political family that supported the drug trade, noting that one of its members, who once dined with General Dyer during the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, is now imprisoned in Nabha Jail for destroying Punjab’s youth. He shared his visits to Caxton Hall, where Udham Singh took revenge for millions of Indians, and expressed regret that the fruits of independence have not reached every household even after 75 years.
Mann condemned past leaders for misusing independence by promoting drugs, corruption, and exploitation. He criticized successive Prime Ministers for delivering repetitive Independence Day speeches from the Red Fort, offering empty promises while people lacked basic amenities. He assured that AAP is tirelessly working to realize martyrs’ dreams, drawing inspiration from Punjab’s sacred land, blessed by Gurus, saints, and freedom fighters who taught resistance against injustice.
Mann credited Kejriwal for making health, education, employment, electricity, water, and infrastructure central to India’s political discourse. Unlike other parties that promote divisive agendas, AAP has set a new direction by prioritizing these sectors. He highlighted the Chief Minister Healthcare Scheme, a pioneering initiative providing up to ₹10 lakh in cashless medical treatment to every Punjab family, making Punjab the first state to offer such comprehensive healthcare coverage.

Additionally, 90% of Punjab’s households receive zero electricity bills, alongside other people-centric initiatives.
