Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday felicitated four police personnel for their heroic act of saving 11 lives, including five children, after a car plunged into the Sirhind Canal in Bathinda on July 23.
The Chief Minister honored the Police Control Room (PCR) team, comprising Assistant Sub-Inspectors Rajinder Singh and Narinder Singh, along with Constables Jaswant Singh and Harpal Kaur, for their exemplary courage and service. During an interaction at his residence, Mann praised their bravery, noting that their actions reflected the Punjab Police’s proud legacy of serving the public with dedication. He highlighted that upon receiving news of the accident, the team acted swiftly to rescue the victims trapped in the vehicle.

Emphasizing their extraordinary courage, Mann recounted how ASI Narinder Singh fearlessly jumped into the canal to save the families. Remarkably, Constable Jaswant Singh, despite not knowing how to swim, followed Narinder into the water, risking his own life to assist in the rescue. The Chief Minister also commended the rest of the PCR team and members of the public who actively supported the evacuation efforts.
Describing the act as a rare display of heroism and professional commitment, Mann congratulated Senior Superintendent of Police Avneet Kaundal and her team for their humanitarian efforts. He announced that the four officers will be awarded the CM Rakshak Padak for their bravery during the upcoming state-level Independence Day celebrations. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that their inspiring example would motivate other officers to serve Punjab and its people with similar dedication and zeal.
