PATIALA, April 6

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann flagged off 250 new buses for the PRTC fleet in Patiala, marking a major milestone in the state’s public transport transformation. Addressing the gathering, CM Mann said the expansion will provide safer, more comfortable travel to people in both urban and rural areas while generating significant employment opportunities.

Highlighting the scale of the initiative, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated, “Today, 250 new buses have been flagged off and added to the PRTC fleet. In the coming days, more than 300 additional buses will be inducted. This is not just about improving transport facilities but also about creating new jobs for the youth and ensuring better connectivity across Punjab.”

He further announced that 254 ordinary buses and 100 mini buses will be added to the PRTC fleet by the end of May 2026, while tenders have already been issued for 309 more buses. “This expansion will generate employment for 681 persons,” he added.

Praising the improved financial performance of PRTC, CM Mann said, “Despite providing free travel to women, PRTC has registered a 53% increase in gross revenue — from ₹607.09 crore in 2021-22 to ₹927.83 crore in 2024-25. In the current financial year 2025-26, PRTC is expected to cross ₹950 crore in revenue.”

He highlighted the welfare impact, stating, “Since 2022, PRTC has provided free travel to 34.63 crore women commuters at a cost of ₹1,574 crore. Under the Mukh Mantri Tirath Yatra scheme, free HVAC bus travel worth ₹2.21 crore has been provided to 9,529 passengers for visits to religious places.”

CM Mann linked the transport push with broader development, saying, “Punjab is rapidly moving on the path of development. Our government is working tirelessly to bridge the gaps created by 75 years of neglect and transform the state into a Rangla Punjab.”
