CIIPR celebrates World Intellectual Property day at RGNUL

The Centre for Innovation and Intellectual Property Rights (CIIPR) at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law celebrated World Intellectual Property Day and hosted a Panel Discussion on the theme “Evergreening of Patents and Potential Data Exclusivity Regimes: A Novel Interaction in India.” The event was inaugurated by esteemed dignitaries from the firm of S.S. Rana and Co., Mr. Dhruv Mathur and Mr. Shivam Malvi along with our worthy Vice-chancellor Prof. Dr. Jai S. Singh, Hon’ble Registrar Prof. (Dr.) Anand Pawar and Dr. Shiva Satish Sharda, Faculty coordinator of CIIPR. Prof. (Dr.) Jai S. Singh further addressed the gathering and shed light upon this year’s theme for IP day which focused on Sustainable Development Goals and the importance of leveraging IP rights to achieve the same.

The Panel Discussion was initiated by Mr. Dhruv Mathur, the Managing Associate at S.S. Rana and Co., who delved into the concept of Evergreening of Patents and its global impact with special reference to patenting of drugs in the pharmaceutical sector.

The enriching session was followed by a fruitful discussion and interaction with enthusiastic students. Further, the Panel was addressed virtually by Ms. Vidisha Garg, partner at the renowned firm Anand and Anand, who has an experience of over seventeen years working in the field of Patents. She dealt with the concern of Data Exclusivity and its intersection with Patent Protection as well as the global and domestic effect of such exclusivity when viewed from the lens of pharma sector. The winning entry of Documentary Making Competition organised by CIIPR, RGNUL was also showcased as part of the event followed by research presentation by Vasundhra Koul and Hanisha Garg, members of the Centre, on the topic of “Evergreening of Patents and Impact on Public Health”.

The Panel Discussion concluded on a successful note with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between RGNUL and the firm of S.S Rana and Co. for the purpose of several future collaborations including certificate /diploma programs in the field of IPR, student internships, joint Seminar/Conference/Workshop and research and development activities.
