FATEHGARH SAHIB, December 26

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday morning paid obeisance at the historic Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, bowing in reverence to Mata Gujri Ji and the younger Sahibzadas, Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji, in homage to their supreme sacrifices.

Emphasising the significance of the Shaheedi Sabha days, CM Mann said that the entire state of Punjab observes these as “Days of Mourning,” marking the period when the tyrant rulers bricked alive the younger Sahibzadas of the Tenth Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji (Dashmesh Pitaah). “The world takes immense pride in this unparalleled and extraordinary sacrifice—one that is revered not only by Punjabis and Indians but by humanity across the globe. Nearly 50 lakh devotees visit Fatehgarh Sahib during the Shaheedi Sabha to seek blessings at this sacred shrine,” he added.

Speaking to the media after paying obeisance, the Chief Minister said these great sacrifices remain unmatched in human history and will continue to inspire future generations to resist tyranny, oppression, and injustice. “Every inch of this sacred land is blessed, attracting countless devotees who come to pay their respects. This pious soil serves as a source of inspiration not just for Sikhs but for the entire human race,” he remarked.

Referring to the sacrifice of Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji, CM  Mann highlighted that their supreme act of upholding the human right to follow one’s faith according to conscience is unparalleled in history. “The Sikh tradition remembers this tragedy as ‘Nikkian jindan, vadde saake’ (young lives, great martyrdom), an event that, even after more than three centuries, continues to evoke profound sorrow among Sikhs worldwide,” he said.

The Chief Minister added that he prayed to the Almighty for Punjab’s continued prosperity, harmony, peace, and the strengthening of universal human values like brotherhood and goodwill.

CM Mann expressed gratitude for being blessed with the opportunity to serve the people of Punjab. Regarding arrangements for the millions of devotees arriving from across the world, he said, “The Punjab government has made comprehensive provisions for healthcare, transport, cleanliness, and security to ensure no devotee faces any inconvenience. Fulfilling this duty during the Shaheedi Sabha is the government’s top priority, and we are carrying it out with complete dedication.”

The Chief Minister also noted that this year marks the 350th Shaheedi Diwas (martyrdom anniversary) of the Ninth Guru, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, being observed with deep devotion and respect. He recalled that in November, on the occasion of Guru Ji’s martyrdom, the Punjab government announced the designation of three Takht towns as holy cities. “The official notification has been issued to grant holy-city status to the walled city area of Amritsar, Talwandi Sabo, and Sri Anandpur Sahib, fulfilling a long-pending demand of the global Sikh sangat,” he said.

Addressing the controversy over naming the younger Sahibzadas’ martyrdom day as Veer Bal Diwas, the Chief Minister pointed out that when the BJP-led Union Government first took the decision, the Shiromani Akali Dal had publicly supported it via a tweet. However, under public pressure, the party has now reversed its stance. CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated, “The supreme sacrifice of the Sahibzadas cannot be confined to words or limited to a single day. The Akali Dal’s U-turn clearly shows their lack of sincerity toward religion and heritage.”

Later, the Chief Minister stopped en route to partake in the tea langar and interacted warmly with the devotees.
