Construction of Medical College in Sangrur Set to Begin Soon After Clearing All Obstacles

Sangrur, February 22:

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann flagged off 216 state-of-the-art machines , including advanced super suction-cum-jetting machines , on Saturday, aimed at enhancing sewage line cleaning and sanitation across seven districts in the Malwa region. The initiative is part of the government’s broader push to ensure cleaner and healthier urban environments.

Addressing a gathering at Ranbir College after the flagging-off ceremony, the Chief Minister stated that these machines, purchased at a cost of Rs 14.30 crore , will be deployed in Sangrur, Barnala, Bathinda, Malerkotla, Mansa, Patiala, and Fatehgarh Sahib . He further announced the procurement of an additional 730 machines worth Rs 40 crore to improve sanitation facilities in various cities across Punjab.

Modern Machines to Revolutionize Sanitation

The Chief Minister emphasized that these cutting-edge super suction-cum-jetting machines will play a pivotal role in cleaning sewage lines in urban areas. With their deployment, sanitation workers will no longer need to manually enter manholes, as they will be trained to operate these advanced tools efficiently.

“These machines will effectively address sewage-related challenges, bringing much-needed relief to city residents,” said Bhagwant Singh Mann . He added that the Punjab government is committed to equipping all urban areas with modern sanitation tools to keep pace with the growing population and tackle sanitation issues in larger cities.

Medical College in Sangrur: A Major Milestone

In a significant announcement, the Chief Minister revealed that all obstacles hindering the establishment of a medical college in Sangrur have been resolved, and construction will commence shortly. He noted that certain vested interests had attempted to obstruct the project for personal gains, but the government successfully overcame these challenges.

The Chief Minister also disclosed plans to establish three new medical colleges across the state, enabling local students to pursue medical education and contribute to healthcare services within their own regions.

Empowering Youth Through UPSC Coaching Centers

To support youth empowerment, the Chief Minister announced the establishment of eight UPSC coaching centers in Punjab, with one center set to open in Sangrur . Each center will be equipped with modern amenities, including libraries, hostels, and other essential facilities, to provide quality training for competitive exams.

“These centers will ensure that Punjab’s youth are well-prepared to excel in national-level examinations,” said Bhagwant Singh Mann , emphasizing the government’s commitment to nurturing talent and fostering success among young aspirants.

Success of the ‘PAHEL Project’

The Chief Minister lauded the success of the ‘PAHEL Project’ in Sangrur district, which has empowered women economically by enabling them to manufacture uniforms for government and private schools in rural areas. This initiative has brought significant financial benefits to women and demonstrated a replicable model for promoting financial self-reliance among rural women.

“We aim to replicate this model across the state to empower more women and make them financially independent,” he added.

Sadak Surakhiya Force Completes One Year with Remarkable Success

Marking the first anniversary of the Sadak Surakhiya Force , the Chief Minister highlighted its outstanding success in reducing road accident fatalities in Punjab. Compared to the previous year, the mortality rate due to road accidents has decreased by 48.10 percent .

Punjab is the first state in the country to establish such a force, and other states are now seeking guidance from Punjab to implement similar initiatives.
