The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Wednesday arrested a Cooperative Department inspector for allegedly demanding and accepting a Rs 15,000 bribe.
Gurinder Singh, posted as secretary of the Bhura Kohna Multipurpose Cooperative Society, was apprehended while accepting the bribe from a complainant, identified as Varinder Singh of Tarn Taran district.

According to the complaint, Singh had demanded Rs 1.5 lakh to reinstate the cooperative society, which had been dissolved due to alleged misappropriation of funds. The complainant alleged that Singh had further demanded Rs 15,000 to meet a joint registrar in Jalandhar regarding the matter.
The VB laid a trap and caught Singh red-handed while accepting the bribe. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against him, and he will be produced in court on Thursday. The investigation is ongoing.
This arrest is part of the VB’s ongoing crackdown on corruption in the state.
