Details of the Operation
DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that the CI Amritsar team received credible intelligence indicating that Harmandeep had established connections with Pakistan-based drug smugglers. He had recently received a large consignment of heroin from across the border and was planning to deliver it to an associate near Ram Tirath Road, Morh Village Kale , close to the Dera Radha Swami area in Amritsar.
Acting swiftly on the tip-off, CI Amritsar launched an intelligence-driven operation and set up a Special Police Checkpoint on Ram Tirath Road. The accused, Harmandeep Singh , was intercepted and arrested during the operation. A thorough search revealed 10 kg of heroin in his possession.
Role of Pakistan-Based Smuggler Chacha Bawa
Preliminary investigations have uncovered that Harmandeep was in constant communication with a Pakistan-based smuggler known as Chacha Bawa . According to the DGP, Chacha Bawa used drones to transport heroin consignments across the border in the Attari sector . These consignments were then distributed to other networks operating within Punjab.
Ongoing Investigations
The DGP emphasized that further investigations are underway to trace the backward and forward linkages of this drug smuggling network. Efforts are being made to identify other individuals involved in the racket, and more arrests and recoveries of narcotics are anticipated in the coming days.
Legal Action
A case has been registered under FIR No. 8 dated 18.02.2025 at the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), Amritsar , under Sections 21, 25, and 29 of the NDPS Act .
This operation underscores Punjab Police’s unwavering commitment to eradicating the menace of drugs from the state, aligning with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s vision of making Punjab a drug-free state . The use of advanced techniques like drones by smugglers highlights the evolving challenges in the fight against narcotics, but Punjab Police remains steadfast in its mission to combat this threat effectively.
