Indian grandmaster D. Gukesh made history on Thursday by becoming the youngest-ever world chess champion at the age of 18. He defeated the reigning champion, Ding Liren of China, in a thrilling 14th and final game of the championship.
Gukesh clinched the title with a score of 7.5 points, surpassing Liren’s 6.5 points. The final classical game, while initially appearing to be heading towards a draw, turned in Gukesh’s favor.
This victory makes Gukesh the second Indian to win the world championship title, following the legendary Viswanathan Anand. Anand last won the title in 2013.

Prior to Gukesh’s historic win, the youngest world champion was Garry Kasparov of Russia. Kasparov won the title at the age of 22 in 1985. Gukesh, who qualified for the championship by winning the Candidates Tournament earlier this year, is the youngest player ever to challenge for the world title. Sources and related content
