DAY 110 OF ‘YUDH NASHIAN VIRUDH’: PUNJAB POLICE ARREST 132 DRUG SMUGGLERS, SEIZE 1.08KG HEROIN AND ₹87K DRUG MONEY

  • As Part of ‘De-Addiction,’ Punjab Police Persuade 67 Individuals to Undergo De-Addiction Treatment

CHANDIGARH, June 19, 2025:

As the Punjab Government’s “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign, launched under the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to eradicate the drug menace, marked its 110th day, Punjab Police arrested 132 drug smugglers on Thursday. They recovered 1.08 kg of heroin and ₹87,540 in drug money from their possession. This brings the total number of drug smugglers arrested to 18,236 in just 110 days.

The operation was carried out across all 28 police districts of the state, as directed by Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has instructed Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and Senior Superintendents of Police to make Punjab a drug-free state. The Punjab Government has also formed a five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee, led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, to oversee the war against drugs.

Providing details, Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla stated that over 220 police teams, comprising more than 1,500 personnel under the supervision of 96 gazetted officers, conducted raids at 544 locations across the state, resulting in the registration of 100 First Information Reports (FIRs). Police teams also checked 571 suspicious individuals during the day-long operation.

Special DGP Shukla highlighted that, under the state government’s three-pronged strategy of Enforcement, De-Addiction, and Prevention (EDP) to eliminate drugs, Punjab Police persuaded 67 individuals to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment as part of the ‘De-Addiction’ initiative on Thursday.
