Delhi Capitals Announce Retained Players for WPL 2026

Franchise Builds on Three-Time Finalist Legacy with Star-Studded Retentions

New Delhi, November 6, 2025

The JSW-GMR co-owned Delhi Capitals have announced their player retentions for the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 cycle, ahead of the inaugural mega auction. After thorough evaluations, the three-time finalists have retained a powerful core: Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Marizanne Kapp, Annabel Sutherland, and Niki Prasad.

Fresh from India’s historic World Cup triumph, Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma delivered match-winning performances in the semi-finals and final, further elevating the prestige of Delhi Capitals’ squad.

This strategic retention underscores the franchise’s focus on continuity, consistency, and long-term success. The management, coaching staff, and analysts collaborated extensively to evaluate performances and team dynamics.

Parth Jindal, Co-owner of Delhi Capitals and Founder of JSW Sports, stated: “Letting go of players from such a consistent, high-performing squad is never easy, but that’s the reality of a mega auction. Every player has been instrumental in our journey. Though we fell just short of the title, we’re incredibly proud of our achievements over three seasons.”

“We’re delighted with our retentions. Jemi, Shafali, Marizanne, Annabel, and Niki provide a rock-solid foundation to build upon. Best wishes to all retained and released players for the future. The first-ever WPL mega auction will be thrilling—we’re determined to go one step further this time,” he added.

Kiran Kumar Grandhi, Chairman and Co-owner, remarked: “The WPL has been a transformative journey for women’s cricket in India. We take immense pride in consistently reaching finals and setting new standards of professionalism and unity. As we embark on this new cycle, our priority is nurturing existing talent while strengthening the squad. The mega auction opens an exciting chapter, and we’re confident Delhi Capitals will finally lift the trophy.”

Head Coach Jonathan Batty said: “We’ve delivered exceptional cricket across three seasons as a tight-knit unit. Releasing players after such shared success is tough, but that’s franchise cricket. We’re thrilled with our retained core and now turn our attention to the auction to complete a championship-winning team.”
