New Delhi, June 6
The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) President Harmeet Singh Kalka today dedicated a new PET Scan Centre at the Guru Harkishan Polyclinic within Gurdwara Bangla Sahib to the public. The facility, aimed at early cancer detection, was formally inaugurated following an ardaas performed by DSGMC office bearers led by Kalka at Gurdwara Bangla Sahib.
Kalka noted that the launch on June 6 marks the 41st anniversary of Operation Bluestar in 1984, when Sri Darbar Sahib in Amritsar, including the revered Shri Akal Takht Sahib, was attacked by the government of the time. He emphasized that the PET Scan Centre also honors 21st-century martyrs who suffered due to oppressive actions. Speaking after the ardaas, Kalka said, “We follow the path of our Gurus to serve humanity. This launch sends a clear message globally that Sikhs are a peace-loving, secular community dedicated to humanity’s service, even amidst suffering.
Kalka announced that the scan will be offered at a minimal cost to cover operational expenses, adding, “I pray no one needs this machine, as the trauma of a cancer diagnosis is immense for any family.” He affirmed that the polyclinic’s services are open to all, regardless of caste, creed, or ethnicity.
Expressing gratitude, Kalka acknowledged Baba Bachan Singh and Baba Satnam Singh Kar Sewa Waley for constructing the infrastructure and a donor family for contributing the Rs. 10 crore machine. Addressing the significance of the date, he stated, “Some asked why June 6—a day of the 1984 massacre at Shri Darbar Sahib—was chosen for the launch. I responded that it shows the world that the more Sikhs are suppressed, the stronger they rise, while never forgetting their commitment to humanity.”
S. Kalka also praised former DSGMC President Manjinder Singh Sirsa, now a Delhi Cabinet Minister, for initiating affordable healthcare services like free dialysis and MRI scans for the underprivileged at the polyclinic. DSGMC General Secretary Jagdeep Singh Kahlon also addressed the gathering. Manjinder Singh Sirsa, speaking at the event, expressed joy at the expansion of services, stating, “I’m glad the initiatives started during my tenure are growing, benefiting more people in serving humanity.”
