Chandigarh, October 15:
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has declared by-elections for four assembly constituencies in Punjab: Dera Baba Nanak (10), Chabbewal (SC) (44), Gidderbaha (84), and Barnala (103).
Providing details, Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C announced that the election notification will be issued on 18 October, with nominations open until 25 October. The scrutiny of nomination papers will occur on 28 October, and the last date for withdrawal of candidatures is 30 October.
Sibin C further informed that voting will be held on 13 November, with the counting of votes and the announcement of results scheduled for 23 November.

With the by-election announcement, the election code of conduct has come into immediate effect in the relevant districts: Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Sri Muktsar Sahib, and Barnala. The code will remain active until the election process concludes on 25 November.
Voter and Polling Station Information for the Four Constituencies
As of 10 October 2024, the total number of voters across the four constituencies stands at 6,96,316, with 831 polling stations set up.
- Dera Baba Nanak (10) has 1,93,268 voters and 241 polling stations.
- Chabbewal (SC) (44) has 1,59,254 voters and 205 polling stations.
- Gidderbaha (84) has 1,66,489 voters with 173 polling stations.
- Barnala (103) has 1,77,305 voters and 212 polling stations.
Appointment of District and Returning Officers
Sibin C also confirmed the appointment of District Election Officers for each constituency:
- Uma Shankar Gupta, Deputy Commissioner of Gurdaspur, for Dera Baba Nanak;
- Komal Mittal, Deputy Commissioner of Hoshiarpur, for Chabbewal (SC);
- Rajesh Tripathi, Deputy Commissioner of Sri Muktsar Sahib, for Gidderbaha;
- Poonamdeep Kaur, Deputy Commissioner of Barnala, for Barnala.
In addition, the respective Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and Additional Deputy Commissioners (ADC-G) have been designated as the Returning Officers for each constituency.
Sibin C assured the public that the by-elections will be conducted in a peaceful, impartial, and fully transparent manner.
