A Transformative Move to Empower Electoral Workforce: Sibin C, CEO Punjab
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced a significant increase in the minimum annual remuneration for Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and BLO Supervisors, effective from 2025, through a notification dated July 24, 2025. This decision is a pivotal step toward recognizing the critical role of BLOs, the backbone of India’s electoral system, and enhancing grassroots electoral operations.
Revised Remuneration Structure:
-
BLOs: Annual remuneration increased to Rs. 12,000 from Rs. 6,000.
-
BLO Supervisors: Annual remuneration raised to Rs. 18,000 from Rs. 12,000.
-
Special Incentive: BLOs participating in Special Summary Revisions or other electoral drives will receive Rs. 2,000, up from Rs. 1,000.
Shri Sibin C, IAS, Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, lauded the initiative, stating, “This forward-thinking decision by the ECI will significantly boost the morale of Booth Level Officers, the frontline warriors of our electoral framework. BLOs ensure the accuracy of voter lists, conduct door-to-door verifications, and promote voter engagement. By doubling their remuneration, the ECI has reaffirmed its commitment to their invaluable contribution, paving the way for greater transparency, accountability, and efficiency in Punjab’s electoral process.”
The CEO Punjab further assured that the Chief Electoral Officer’s office is dedicated to the welfare and skill development of field-level officers. Instructions will be issued to all Deputy Commissioners in Punjab to ensure seamless and timely implementation of the revised remuneration structure.
This reform is more than a financial enhancement; it is a morale-lifting measure that underscores the ECI’s commitment to inclusive, credible, and efficient elections. By prioritizing BLO welfare, the ECI is strengthening the foundation for upcoming electoral activities, including the Special Intensive Revision and future elections
