Election Commission Issues Show Cause Notices to 8 Unrecognized Political Parties for Non-Participation: Sibin C
Chandigarh, July 9,
Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C announced that the Election Commission has issued show cause notices to eight registered unrecognized political parties for failing to contest any elections to the House of the People or State Legislative Assemblies, including by-elections, since 2019. The Commission has initiated proceedings to delist these parties from the list of registered political parties under Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

Reasons for Notices
Sibin C stated that these parties have not fielded candidates in any elections over the past six years, and their current addresses are unknown. The Election Commission has concluded that these parties appear to have ceased functioning as political entities under the provisions of the Act.
Opportunity for Response
To ensure fairness, the Commission has provided these parties until July 15, 2025, to submit a written representation, supported by an affidavit from the President or General Secretary and relevant documents. A hearing is scheduled for July 23, 2025, which must be attended by the party’s President, General Secretary, or Head.
Consequences of Non-Compliance
Sibin C clarified that if no response is received by the deadline, the Commission will assume the parties have no defense and will proceed with appropriate action, including potential delisting, without further notice.
