–Short-Term Course concludes

The UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC) at Punjabi University, Patiala, successfully completed a 6-day online Short-Term Course on Research Methodology and Ethics from August 19 to August 26, 2025. Designed to equip faculty with skills for systematic and ethical research, the course attracted 91 participants. It covered research design, tools, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and ethical considerations such as plagiarism, authorship, academic honesty, and research integrity.
Prof. (Dr.) Raman Maini, Director of MMTTC, welcomed the Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) Jagdeep Singh, Vice Chancellor of Punjabi University and Guest of Honour, Prof. (Dr.) Minni Singh, Professor of Biotechnology & Food Technology and Associate Dean Research. He expressed gratitude to Course Coordinator Prof. (Dr.) Balraj Singh Saini, Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Dean, College Development Council, Co-Coordinator Dr. Abhinav Bhandari, and all participants. Dr. Maini emphasized that research is a responsibility, stating, “In an era of abundant information but scarce discernment, methodology provides structure, and ethics ensures the integrity of scholarship.” He reaffirmed MMTTC’s commitment to fostering a community that integrates quality teaching with impactful research.

In his valedictory address, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Jagdeep Singh underscored that “true research embodies innovation, responsibility, honesty, and accountability.” He highlighted methodology and ethics as the pillars of credible research, essential for building a robust academic culture, and praised MMTTC for organizing a program aligned with the university’s vision of academic excellence and ethical scholarship.
Prof. (Dr.) Minni Singh, Guest of Honour, noted that research methodology provides a systematic foundation for scholarly work, while ethics ensures its credibility and societal relevance. She stressed the importance of fostering responsible research practices to enhance institutional integrity and public trust in academia.
Course Coordinator Prof. (Dr.) Balraj Singh Saini urged participants to adopt interdisciplinary perspectives, innovation, and societal relevance in their research, encouraging young faculty to uphold originality and authenticity to elevate Indian academia globally.
Dr. Abhinav Bhandari, Co-Coordinator and Assistant Professor of Computer Engineering, outlined the program’s objectives, which included sessions on Research Design, Data Analysis, Plagiarism Checks, Publication Ethics, and Emerging Digital Resources. He encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained to their academic pursuits.
In his closing remarks, Prof. (Dr.) Raman Maini thanked the resource persons, participants, and organizing team, including supporting staff Dr. Mandeep Singh (Technical Officer), Mr. Dyal Dutt, Mr. Surinder Singh, Mrs. Kanta Rani, Mr. Mahaveer Singh, and Mr. Surinder Kumar, for their exceptional efforts in ensuring the smooth execution of the online program.
The course saw enthusiastic participation from faculty and scholars across diverse disciplines from all over India, earning widespread appreciation for its academic rigor, relevance, and engaging delivery.
