Experienced Bureaucrat Sanjay Gupta Takes Helm of Punjab Power Regulatory Commission

Chandigarh/Mohali, June 3

Retired IAS officer Sanjay Gupta formally assumed charge as the Chairperson of the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC) today.

Punjab Power Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mr. Gupta at a ceremony held at Vikas Bhawan, Mohali. A 1988-batch IAS officer, Mr. Gupta has held several key administrative positions during his distinguished career, including serving as the Chief Secretary of Himachal Pradesh.

Congratulating Gupta on taking over the prestigious responsibility, Power Minister Sond expressed confidence that his extensive administrative experience and deep understanding of governance would further strengthen Punjab’s power regulatory framework.

The Minister stated that the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, remains committed to ensuring transparent, consumer-friendly, and efficient regulation of the power sector. He emphasized that the Commission plays a crucial role in achieving these objectives.

Speaking on the occasion, newly appointed Chairperson Gupta thanked the Punjab Government for placing its trust in him. He assured that the Commission would continue to function in accordance with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2003, while safeguarding consumer interests and promoting the overall growth and development of the power sector.

Gupta stated that he would focus on ensuring the availability of quality power supply to consumers with minimal interruptions. He added that reducing transmission losses and addressing operational challenges would be key priorities in achieving better outcomes for the sector.

Among those present at the ceremony were PSPCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Dr. Basant Garg, PSERC Members Ravinder Singh Saini and Ravi Kumar, Director Distribution Inderpal Singh, senior officers from the Power Department and PSERC, family members of the newly appointed Chairperson, and other distinguished guests.
