The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested a former Patwari, Gurnam Singh, and his associate, Rana Singh, for accepting a bribe of Rs 65,000 in instalments to facilitate the mutation of a plot. The arrests were made as part of the VB’s ongoing drive against corruption in the state.
According to a spokesperson for the VB, the case was registered based on a complaint filed by Sarabjit Singh, a resident of village Dulley in Ludhiana district. The complainant alleged that Patwari Gurnam Singh had demanded Rs 1 lakh to process the mutation of his plot and had accepted the bribe in three instalments of Rs 15,000, Rs 35,000, and Rs 15,000 through his associates, Buta Singh and Rana Singh.

The spokesperson stated that the allegations were verified during an inquiry, which revealed that the phone calls between the complainant, Patwari Gurnam Singh, and his associates were recorded, providing evidence of the bribery.
The VB has registered a corruption case against Patwari Gurnam Singh, Buta Singh, and Rana Singh, and the two arrested individuals will be produced in court tomorrow. Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
