Four Cadets from Mai Bhago Institute Selected for Top Defence Academies
Chandigarh, June 5,
The Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute for Girls in SAS Nagar (Mohali) has marked another achievement, with four of its lady cadets securing positions in renowned pre-commission training academies of the defence services. These cadets will join the National Defence Academy (NDA), Air Force Academy, Indian Naval Academy, and Officer’s Training Academy.
Punjab Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training Minister Aman Arora shared the details on Thursday. Nancy, selected for the NDA, is the daughter of Swarnjeet Kaur Nijjer, Principal of a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Punjab. Nisha, who will join the Indian Naval Academy, is the daughter of Dinesh Chander, a Senior Assistant at Punjabi University, Patiala. Diksha, set to train at the Officer’s Training Academy in Chennai, is the daughter of Pawan Kumar, a businessman from Pathankot. Harsimrat Kaur, chosen for the Air Force Academy’s flying branch, is the daughter of Subedar Ravinderjit Singh, an Indian Army veteran from Beas.

Minister Aman Arora congratulated the cadets, noting that their success will motivate more young girls from Punjab to pursue careers as commissioned officers in the defence services. He highlighted the Punjab Government’s initiative under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, which launched an NDA Preparatory Wing for Girls at Mai Bhago AFPI in 2023 to empower women. He called the institute a “Pride of Punjab.”
Major General Jasbir Singh Sandhu, AVSM (Retd.), Director of Mai Bhago AFPI, expressed joy over the selections, stating that this milestone will boost their efforts to encourage more girls from Punjab to join the defence services. He extended best wishes to the cadets, confident they will excel in their training and future roles.
