From Music to Mat: The Inspiring Journey of Wrestler Brothers Rajkaran & Armaan

Hailing from the village of Kanaheri in Patiala, Punjab, the father-son trio of Jatinder Jeetu (a renowned Punjabi folk singer) and his sons Rajkaran Singh (born 2008) and Armaan Singh (born 2010) have carved a niche in the world of wrestling. Their family’s legacy in sports traces back to their grandfather and great-grandfather, who were also wrestlers, embedding a deep-rooted passion for kusti (traditional wrestling) in the brothers from a young age.

Early Training and Sports Journey

  • Both brothers began their athletic journey at 7-8 years old , initially training in wushu, swimming, and judo .
  • By ages 8-9 , they transitioned to wrestling under the guidance of coaches Tejpal Singh and later Saraj Bhullar and Gurmail Singh .
  • Balancing academics and sports, Rajkaran (currently in 11th grade) and Armaan (in 10th grade) have excelled in both fields.

Achievements

  • Rajkaran : Won bronze at the 2021 Under-15 National Championship and multiple gold medals in Punjab school competitions.
  • Armaan : Secured bronze at the 2024 Under-15 National Championship and dominated state-level tournaments.
  • Both have triumphed in mud wrestling competitions (local dangals ) held in Kanaheri and across Punjab.

Training and Future Goals

  • Currently training at the Rustam-e-Hind Kesari Singh Akharas , Rajkaran is preparing for the Under-17 Nationals , while Armaan aims to defend his title in upcoming tournaments.
  • Their rigorous training regimen, combined with a strong mutual understanding and practice sessions with coaches, has sharpened their skills.

Community Pride

The brothers’ success has brought pride to their village and family. Their coaches and mentors, including Sectretary of Patiala Wrestling Association, Mahinder Bhalwan , and Charanjeet Bhullar , are confident they will bring more laurels to Punjab and India.
