-Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University Team Wins; Government Law College, Mumbai Runners-Up

The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab, in collaboration with the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, successfully organized the RGNUL National Moot Court Competition on Consumer Protection Laws, 2026 on February 20–21, 2026. The competition aimed to engage law students with contemporary consumer protection jurisprudence and sensitize them to emerging challenges in a digital and market-driven economy.
Conducted by the RGNUL Moot Court Committee (RMCC) under the guidance of Faculty Coordinator Dr. Jaswinder Kaur, Assistant Professor of Law, and the Centre for Competition and Consumer Protection Law (CCCPL), RGNUL, the event was held in a hybrid format—preliminary rounds online and advanced rounds on campus. The moot proposition, drafted by practicing advocate Abhinav Gaur (Allahabad High Court), focused on pressing issues including dark patterns, misleading advertisements, data protection, and product liability, providing participants a platform to explore evolving regulatory and judicial perspectives.
The competition saw enthusiastic participation from 42 teams representing law schools across India. Eight teams advanced to the on-campus rounds:

- University School of Law, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University
- UILS, Chandigarh
- Faculty of Law, Jai Narain Vyas University, Jodhpur

- Government Law College, Mumbai
Four teams qualified for the semi-finals: Government Law College, Mumbai; Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University; Jai Narain Vyas University, Jodhpur; and Christ University, Bangalore.

The valedictory session began with the Moot Court Report presented by Student Convenor Madhumita J. (RGNUL Moot Court Committee). Vice Chancellor Professor (Dr.) Jai S. Singh delivered the welcome address, highlighting the importance of consumer welfare and thanking the esteemed judges.
The final rounds were judged by an eminent panel, including:
- Justice Pankaj Jain, Punjab & Haryana High Court, Chandigarh, who addressed the participants, praising their advocacy skills and urging continued participation in moots. He inspired innovation with the words: “Progress depends on unreasonable visionaries who reshape the world.”
- Justice Raj Shekhar Atri, President, Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Chandigarh, who emphasized robust enforcement mechanisms for fair trade practices based on his bench experience.
- Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Ranga, Registrar, J.C. Bose University of Science & Technology, Faridabad, who commended the quality of arguments and stressed the role of mooting as essential training for future legal professionals.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Ivneet Kaur Walia (Officiating Registrar, RGNUL), who, along with Faculty Coordinator Dr. Jaswinder Kaur and other faculty members—Dr. Shiva Satish Sharda, Dr. Manpreet Kaur, Dr. Basant Singh, Mr. Anubhav, Mr. Sisir, Dr. Ankit Srivastava, Dr. Ishita Sharma, and Dr. Sangeeta Taak—expressed gratitude to the judges, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs for sponsorship, and the student team led by Convenor Madhumita J., Co-Convenors Jaipreet Singh and Archi Chaturvedi for the successful execution of the competition.
