Government College for Girls, Patiala celebrated its annual function
in the campus today. Dr. Ashwini Kumar Bhalla, Deputy Director, Higher
Education Department, Government of Punjab, presided over the
function. The meritorious students holding positions in university exams
as well as in college exams were awarded prizes and certificates. As many
as 251 students were awarded, among whom 72 bagged the Roll of
Honor and 87 received College Color. Apart from them, there were
meritorious certificate winners as well in NCC, Sports and Cultural
activities.
The whole event was studded with mesmerizing performances by
the students. The program started with Shabd Gayan by the students of
the Music department. After that Principal, Mrs. Charanjit Kaur presented
the college annual report while welcoming Dr. Ashwini Bhalla ji, various
guests, principals from other colleges and media persons. A dance event
‘Devi’ was presented by the students of Dance department, songs by
students of Music vocal department and Giddha by the students of Folk
art and culture department.
The chief guest in his speech appreciated the endeavor of the
college, its Principal and staff in reaping laurels, especially the Five crore
rupees grant under PM Usha announced in favour of GCG, Patiala
recently. Dr. Bhalla then went on to appreciate and thank the parents of
students who despite all odds provide education to their children.
Furthermore, he exhorted students to read more and more books as he
felt there is a need to befriend books because only books are a continuity
of a tradition which we have left behind and which should never be
forgotten. He even laid emphasis on the need to strengthen and train
girls in such a way that they can move freely in the society with dignity
and respect. The college Vice Principal proposed vote of thanks to the
Chief guest formally. Prof. Richa Bansal coordinated the stage
successfully.
