Big news has emerged for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Following the official announcement regarding the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Pakistan has been awarded the hosting rights for another major tournament.
The “tug-of-war” between the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) and Pakistan regarding the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has concluded with an official announcement from the ICC. The ICC has declared that the Champions Trophy will be played under a hybrid model. The tournament will be held in Pakistan and at neutral venues. Most of the matches will be played in Pakistan, while the Indian team will play its matches at neutral venues. Furthermore, any matches between India and Pakistan will also be held at neutral venues.

The ICC clarified that all India-Pakistan matches in ICC events during the 2024-27 cycle (scheduled to be hosted by either India or Pakistan) will be played at neutral venues proposed by the tournament host. Any matches involving Pakistan in events hosted by India will also be played outside of India. This agreement applies to the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan, the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 in India, and the T20 World Cup 2026 co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. India had previously refused to travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to security concerns. India has not played a match in Pakistan since the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks. The last bilateral series between the two countries was played in 2012. Since then, the two teams have only played against each other in ACC (Asian Cricket Council) and ICC events.

Pakistan Lands Another Major Tournament:
There’s more good news for Pakistani cricket fans. The PCB has been awarded the hosting rights for a T20 World Cup. However, this will be the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2028. This means Pakistan will host two major tournaments within four years. Additionally, Cricket Australia will also host one of the senior ICC women’s tournaments between 2029 and 2031.
