ICC Women’s Player of the Month Nominees for December Announced

The ICC has revealed the nominees for the Women’s Player of the Month award for December 2024, featuring a strong lineup of international stars: Smriti Mandhana (India), Annabel Sutherland (Australia), and Nonkululeko Mlaba (South Africa).  

Smriti Mandhana (India):

Mandhana was a consistent performer for India during their tour of Australia and subsequent home series against the West Indies. After a slow start in the first two ODIs against Australia, she bounced back with a brilliant century (105 off 109 balls) in the final match. She continued her impressive form against the West Indies, scoring two half-centuries in ODIs and dominating the T20I series with three consecutive fifties, leading India to a 2-1 victory.  

  • ODIs (6 matches): 270 runs at an average of 45.00 and a strike rate of 91.52
  • T20Is (3 matches): 193 runs at an average of 64.33 and a strike rate of 159.50

Annabel Sutherland (Australia):

Sutherland delivered outstanding all-round performances as Australia remained undefeated in five ODIs in December. She scored two centuries: 110 against India in Perth and an unbeaten 105 against New Zealand in Wellington. With the ball, she took nine wickets, including a match-winning 4/39 against India in Brisbane. Her contributions earned her the Player of the Series award for both series.

  • ODIs (5 matches): 269 runs at an average of 67.25 and a strike rate of 113.98  
  • ODIs (Bowling): 9 wickets at an average of 16.22 and an economy rate of 3.85

Nonkululeko Mlaba (South Africa):

Mlaba shone for South Africa in their historic one-off Test against England in Bloemfontein. She became the first South African woman to take a ten-wicket haul in a Test match, finishing with 10 wickets at an average of 15.70. She also played in the three-match ODI series against England, taking 2 wickets and scoring 20 runs, although South Africa lost the series 1-2.  

  • Test Match: 10 wickets at an average of 15.70
  • ODIs: 20 runs and 2 wickets at an average of 45.50 and an economy rate of 6.06
