India ended the opening day of the one-off Test against Afghanistan in a commanding position at 368/3 in 85 overs after electing to bat first. Centuries from KL Rahul and captain Shubman Gill put the hosts firmly in control of the contest.
India got off to a steady start before losing Yashasvi Jaiswal for 24. KL Rahul then anchored the innings brilliantly, combining patience with elegant stroke play to register a well-crafted century. Sai Sudharsan also contributed a valuable knock before departing.
Captain Shubman Gill continued his fine form, leading from the front with a composed century. Gill’s innings ensured India maintained control throughout the day and kept the Afghan bowlers under pressure. By the final session, he had crossed the three-figure mark and remained unbeaten.
Rishabh Pant provided late momentum with an aggressive unbeaten knock, helping India push past the 350-run mark before stumps. His attacking approach complemented Gill perfectly as the pair frustrated Afghanistan’s bowlers.

Afghanistan’s bowlers struggled to make regular breakthroughs on a batting-friendly surface. Mohammad Saleem was among the wicket-takers, but the visitors were unable to stop India’s dominance for long periods.
