India posted a strong total of 339/6 on the first day of the first Test match against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. R Ashwin’s unbeaten century, along with half-centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravindra Jadeja, were the highlights of the day.
Bangladesh won the toss and elected to field first. India’s openers, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, got off to a shaky start as Rohit was dismissed early for 6 runs. Shubman Gill followed soon after, departing without scoring. Virat Kohli also failed to make a significant contribution, getting out for 6 runs.
Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal stabilized the innings with a partnership, but both were dismissed before reaching a big score. KL Rahul also departed cheaply. However, Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin then took control of the innings, with both batsmen playing some excellent shots. At stumps, Jadeja was unbeaten on 86 and Ashwin on a magnificent 102.
For Bangladesh, Hasan Mahmud was the pick of the bowlers, taking four wickets for 58 runs. Nahim Shah and Mehidy Hasan Miraz took one wicket each.
