India remained firmly in control after bowling Sri Lanka out for 284 on Day 3. Sri Lanka were in serious trouble at 90/5, but a superb 146-run sixth-wicket partnership between Sonal Dinusha and Niroshan Dickwella gave the hosts a chance to fight back.
Sonal Dinusha — Maiden Test Century
The standout performer for Sri Lanka was Sonal Dinusha, who produced a remarkable rescue act.

Dinusha walked in with Sri Lanka in deep trouble and remained composed as wickets fell around him. He reached his century from 167 deliveries, but was dismissed for 100 shortly afterwards when Ravindra Jadeja trapped him LBW.

Niroshan Dickwella — 80
Niroshan Dickwella played an equally important supporting role, scoring:

Dickwella was the first of the pair to reach his fifty, doing so from 67 balls. His aggressive strokeplay helped shift the momentum towards Sri Lanka during the middle session.
The partnership between Dickwella and Dinusha eventually reached 146 runs, taking Sri Lanka from 90/5 to 236/6.
India Strike Back After Partnership
Once Dickwella was dismissed for 80, Sri Lanka’s resistance began to collapse.
Prasidh Krishna provided the crucial breakthrough, getting a faint edge from Dickwella through to Rishabh Pant. The dismissal ended the massive sixth-wicket partnership.
India then removed the remaining batsmen quickly, taking the final five wickets for just 50 runs.
Manav Suthar — 4/76
India’s young left-arm spinner Manav Suthar was the pick of the bowling attack.
Manav Suthar: 4/76 in 21.4 overs
He extracted turn and bounce from the Galle surface and played a major role in breaking Sri Lanka’s lower order. His final wicket was Lahiru Kumara, who was stumped while attempting to charge down the pitch.
Ravindra Jadeja — 3/57
Ravindra Jadeja also delivered an outstanding spell:
21 overs — 57 runs — 3 wickets
His wickets included Sonal Dinusha, Prabath Jayasuriya and Keshara Nuwantha.
Jadeja also reached a major personal milestone by taking his 350th Test wicket when Keshara Nuwantha was dismissed via a deflection off Yashasvi Jaiswal at silly point, with Shubman Gill completing the catch.
Jadeja became only the fourth player in men’s Test history to combine more than 4,000 Test runs with 350 wickets, joining Kapil Dev, Daniel Vettori and Ian Botham.

Bottom line: Sri Lanka’s fightback through Dinusha’s century and Dickwella’s 80 prevented an even bigger deficit, but India’s Suthar-Jadeja spin attack eventually broke through. At 284 all out, Sri Lanka trail India by 178 runs, leaving India in a commanding position heading into Day 4.
