India Thrashes Thailand 13-0 in Women’s Asian Champions Trophy

Young striker Deepika’s five-goal haul guides defending champions India to a resounding 13-0 victory over Thailand, virtually sealing a semi-final berth.
The match was a one-sided affair as the Indian team dominated the Thai defense throughout the game. Thailand failed to even manage a single shot on goal.
Apart from Deepika’s five goals (3rd, 19th, 43rd, 45th, and 45th minutes), Preeti Dubey (9th and 40th minutes), Lalremsiami (12th and 56th minutes), and Monika Chauhan (55th and 58th minutes) scored two goals each. Beauty Dung Dung (30th minute) and Navneet Kaur (53rd minute) added one goal apiece.
India had earlier defeated Malaysia 4-0 and edged past South Korea 3-2 in a close encounter.

India will next face Olympic silver medalist China on Saturday. India is currently second in the points table with nine points. China also has the same number of points but tops the table due to a better goal difference of plus 21 compared to India’s plus 18.
The top four teams from the six-team round-robin stage will qualify for the semi-finals.
India also dominated the penalty corners, converting five out of 12 attempts. India started strongly, taking the lead in the third minute through a field goal by Deepika.
A few minutes later, Monika Chauhan had a chance to score but failed to control the ball. In the ninth minute, Preeti set up Sangita for India’s second goal.
Three minutes later, Lalremsiami scored off a rebound from captain Salima Tete’s shot. India earned a penalty corner in the 17th minute but Thailand goalkeeper Siranya Yimkrajang denied the hosts a goal.
Deepika scored her second goal in the 19th minute. India failed to convert three subsequent penalty corners. Beauty converted a penalty corner just before halftime to give the team a 5-0 lead.
Preeti scored her second goal in the 40th minute, while Deepika converted another penalty corner a few minutes later. Deepika then scored twice in two minutes to give India a 9-0 lead at the end of the third quarter.
At the start of the fourth quarter, Navneet scored India’s 10th goal with a reverse hit, while Monika converted a penalty corner five minutes later.
Lalremsiami converted a penalty corner off Udita’s shot, and Monika added another to seal India’s 13-0 victory.
In other matches of the day, Malaysia defeated Korea 2-1, while China continued their unbeaten run with a similar margin win over Japan.
