India U19 Women’s Team Avenges Men’s Loss, Crushes Bangladesh to Win Asia Cup

Kuala Lumpur/Patiala, 22 December (Sports Desk)

The Indian U19 women’s cricket team clinched the U19 Asia Cup 2024 title with a dominant 41-run victory over Bangladesh in the final held on Sunday. Defending a total of 117 runs, the Indian team bowled out Bangladesh for just 76 runs in 18.3 overs. This victory serves as a sweet revenge, as the Bangladesh men’s cricket team had previously defeated India’s men’s team in the U19 Asia Cup final.

Batting first after losing the toss, India posted a total of 117 runs for the loss of 7 wickets, with Trisha scoring a half-century. Subsequently, the Indian bowlers put on a stellar performance, successfully defending the modest total. Bangladesh was bundled out for 76, with Juiiria Ferdous scoring the highest (22 runs) and Fahomida Choya contributing 18 runs.

Ayushi Shukla led the Indian bowling attack with three wickets, while Parunika Sisodia and Sonam Yadav took two wickets each. V. Joshida also chipped in with one wicket.

This is the inaugural edition of the tournament, and the Indian U19 women’s team remained undefeated throughout. They won two matches in the group stage, followed by an 8-wicket victory against Bangladesh in the Super-8 stage and a 4-wicket win against Sri Lanka in the Super-4 to reach the final. 1
