Chandigarh/Patiala, 19 december

Renowned lyricist and journalist Shamsher Sandhu launched his latest book, “Kithe Kho Gaye Chajj De Bande,” at a ceremony attended by Indian hockey captain Harmanpreet Singh and player Gurjant Singh. This marks Sandhu’s first foray into poetry, adding to his repertoire of songs, stories, and prose (totaling nine books).

The book launch took place at the Hockey Stadium in Chandigarh, with sports writer Navdeep Singh Gill also in attendance. Harmanpreet Singh and Gurjant Singh, both Olympic bronze medalists, did the honors of releasing the book.

Harmanpreet Singh congratulated Sandhu, expressing his pride in releasing the work of such a respected lyricist. He shared that Sandhu’s songs, performed by popular singers like Surjit Bindrakhia, Satwinder Bitti, and Surjit Khan, have been a source of inspiration and motivation for the hockey team during training camps. He added that the team is now looking forward to reading Sandhu’s poetry.

Sandhu explained that he wrote the poetry collection in response to requests from friends and readers. Published by Chetna Prakashan, the book features a foreword by the late poet Surjit Patar, titled “Shamsher Sandhu de chauthi Koot,” which was his last published work. In it, Patar welcomed Sandhu to the world of poetry, reflecting on their university days. The book’s cover commentary was written by Prof. Gurbhajan Singh Gill, who provided an overview of Sandhu’s journey from student to literary figure.
