Chandigarh/Amritsar, October 21
In a major intelligence-led operation aligned with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s directive to ensure a safe and secure Punjab, Amritsar Rural Police, in coordination with central agencies, arrested two operatives of a terror module and recovered a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) along with its launcher, announced Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday.
The arrested individuals, identified as Mehakdeep Singh alias Mehak from Wadali, Amritsar, and Aditya alias Adhi from Bhaga Chhina, Amritsar, were apprehended while riding a motorcycle, which was also seized. Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo was in contact with a Pakistan-based ISI operative who sent the consignment via drone, and with Harpreet Singh alias Vicky, currently lodged in Ferozepur Jail. DGP Yadav stated that the RPG was intended for a targeted terror attack.

Further investigations are underway to uncover the full network and establish forward and backward linkages in the case.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amritsar Rural Maninder Singh shared that, based on intelligence about the retrieval of an RPG-22 Netto anti-tank rocket launcher by Mehakdeep and Aditya on Vicky’s instructions, police teams arrested the suspects while they were en route to deliver the consignment. Efforts are ongoing to identify the intended recipients, and Harpreet alias Vicky will be brought from Ferozepur Jail on a production warrant for further interrogation.
A case has been registered under FIR No. 331 dated October 21, 2025, under Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Explosives Substances Act and Section 113 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Gharinda Police Station, Amritsar Rural.
