As part of its ongoing anti-corruption campaign, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) apprehended Balwant Singh, a Superintendent at Punjab Roadways Depot-1, Jalandhar, red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹40,000.
Case Details
According to a VB spokesperson, the arrest followed a complaint by a retired Punjab Roadways driver. The complainant alleged that Balwant Singh demanded ₹50,000 to process pending overtime bills from before the driver’s retirement. After negotiations, the superintendent agreed to accept ₹40,000, but the complainant refused to pay the bribe. He further claimed that the accused had already extorted ₹1,54,000 in installments during a related labor court case.

Investigation and Arrest
Following verification of the complaint, a VB team from the Jalandhar Range set up a trap. Balwant Singh was caught red-handed accepting the ₹40,000 bribe in the presence of two official witnesses.
Legal Action
A case has been registered against the superintendent under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB Police Station, Jalandhar Range. He is scheduled to be produced in court on October 7, 2025, and further investigations are underway.
