IPL 2025 : Punjab Kings Sack Sanjay Bangar and Trevor Bayliss, Appoint Ricky Ponting as Head Coach

Punjab Kings have made a significant change to their coaching staff ahead of the IPL 2025 season. The franchise has parted ways with their Director of Cricket, Sanjay Bangar, and head coach, Trevor Bayliss. In a major development, Ricky Ponting has been appointed as the new head coach of the team.
Punjab Kings had earlier roped in Ricky Ponting as their head coach. Following this appointment, the franchise decided to make a change in their management. Both Sanjay Bangar and Trevor Bayliss were relieved of their duties.
It’s worth noting that Sanjay Bangar was the head coach of Punjab Kings when they reached the finals in the 2014 IPL season. However, the team’s performance in the following seasons, especially in IPL 2024, was disappointing.

Similarly, Trevor Bayliss was appointed as the head coach of Punjab Kings in IPL 2022. Despite his experience, the team couldn’t qualify for the playoffs in the subsequent three seasons.
With Ricky Ponting at the helm, Punjab Kings will be aiming to turn around their fortunes. Ponting has previously coached Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals. While he led Mumbai Indians to an IPL title, he couldn’t replicate the same success with Delhi Capitals.
