Former Indian cricket team batsman Rahul Dravid has also had a successful coaching career. Under his guidance, India won the T20 World Cup 2024. Now, there is news that Dravid is all set to rejoin the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Rajasthan Royals (RR). He will be seen in the role of head coach of the team before IPL 2025. Let’s take a look at this news.
Dravid has recently signed an agreement with the franchise. However, no official statement has been released by RR yet. Dravid has a long-standing relationship with RR. He has captained the team in IPL 2012 and 2013. After that, he worked as a team director and mentor in the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

After staying with RR for 2 seasons, Dravid moved to Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2016. Thus, he has considerable experience coaching in franchise cricket. RR is captained by Sanju Samson. Samson has played under Dravid’s supervision since his under-19 days. There has been a good rapport between the two, which can benefit the team.
There are reports that Vikram Rathour could be included as Dravid’s assistant coach. Former India selector Rathour was part of Dravid’s coaching staff at the NCA before becoming India’s batting coach in 2019. It is believed that while Dravid will take charge of RR’s coaching in the league, Kumar Sangakkara will continue as the cricket director.
RR was eliminated from Qualifier-2 in IPL 2024 In IPL 2024, the RR team lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Qualifier-2 match. In the league stage, RR won 8 of their matches and lost 5. Under Samson’s leadership, RR qualified for the playoffs by finishing third in the points table with 17 points (+0.273). After that, RR defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the eliminator.
