Joe Root Equals England’s Century Record

Patiala, 30 August (Sports Desk)

English batting stalwart Joe Root cemented his legacy in Test cricket, reaching a remarkable 33rd Test century during England’s match against Sri Lanka. This milestone places him on par with the legendary Alastair Cook for the most Test hundreds by an English batsman.

Root’s century, scored at a blistering pace, came after Sri Lanka had made early inroads into the England batting lineup. His partnership with Harry Brook and later Jamie Smith helped England recover and build a strong foundation.

Despite facing a brief moment of danger, Root’s class and skill ensured he remained unbeaten. His achievement is even more impressive when considering the current landscape of Test cricket, where few batsmen have managed to reach such a high number of centuries.

Root’s 33 Test centuries now place him among the elite of Test cricket’s history, equaling the likes of Brian Lara, Mahela Jayawardene, and Younis Khan. His remarkable consistency and ability to consistently score runs at the highest level have solidified his status as one of the greatest batsmen of his generation.
