CHANDIGARH, December 23
A joint operation by Punjab and Uttar Pradesh (UP) Police has resulted in an encounter with three operatives of a Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) terror module, following a grenade attack at a police establishment in Gurdaspur.
The encounter occurred in Pilibhit, UP, after the three module members opened fire on the joint police team. This development comes less than a week after a grenade attack on the Bakshiwala Police Post in Gurdaspur on December 18, 2024, for which the KZF claimed responsibility via social media.
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav identified the three operatives as:
- Varinder Singh alias Ravi (Agwan, Kalanaur)
- Gurwinder Singh (Bhaini Bania Mohalla, Kalanaur)
- Jashanpreet Singh alias Partap Singh (Shur Khurd, Kalanaur)
Two AK-47 rifles and two 9mm Glock pistols were recovered from their possession.
Investigations reveal the module is controlled by Pakistan-based KZF chief Ranjeet Singh Nita and operated by Greece-based Jaswinder Singh Mannu (from Agwan village, Kalanaur). Varinder alias Ravi, the module’s leader, also hails from Agwan village and was further directed by UK-based Jagjeet Singh, reportedly working in the British Army. Jagjeet Singh used the alias “Fateh Singh Baghi” to claim responsibility for the grenade attack.

The DGP highlighted the inter-state cooperation between Punjab and UP Police, emphasizing the swift sharing of information that led to the joint operation. Gurdaspur Police, after receiving intelligence about the suspects fleeing to Pilibhit, immediately alerted Pilibhit Police and deployed their own teams to join the operation.
During the confrontation, the suspects opened fire on the police, prompting a retaliatory response. All three suspects sustained bullet injuries and were taken to CHC Puranpur for medical treatment.
Further investigations are ongoing to uncover all connections and members of the terror module, with more arrests and recoveries expected.
A case (FIR no. 124 dated 19/12/2024) was initially registered at Police Station Kalanaur under sections 109 and 324 (4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and section 4 (5) of the Explosive Act. Sections 13, 16, 17, 18-B, 20, 35, and 40 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act have since been added to the FIR. Sources and related content
