Jyothi Yarraji Shatters National Record in 60m Hurdles

Indian hurdler Jyothi Yarraji set a new national record in the women’s 60m hurdles at the Meeting de Nantes Métropole 2025 in France. Clocking an impressive 8.04 seconds, she surpassed her previous national record of 8.12 seconds set at the Asian Indoor Championships last year.  

Jyothi, already a national record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, showcased her exceptional speed and agility in the French meet. She secured victory in the final A, beating South Africa’s Marione Fourie (8.05s) and Finland’s Saara Keskitalo (8.13s).

This impressive performance marks a strong start to Jyothi’s 2025 athletics season. The qualification mark for the World Athletics Indoor Championships 2025, scheduled to be held in Nanjing, China, is 7.94 seconds for the women’s 60m hurdles.

Tejas Shirse Also Shines

In the men’s 60m hurdles, fellow Indian hurdler Tejas Shirse clocked 7.68 seconds in the final, securing third place behind Aurel Manga of the USA (7.60s) and Erwann Cinna of France (7.63s). He had previously clocked 7.67 seconds in the heats.

Earlier this week, Tejas Shirse had already made headlines by breaking the national record in the men’s 60m hurdles with a time of 7.65 seconds in Luxembourg, surpassing Siddhanth Thingalaya’s previous record of 7.70 seconds. The qualification mark for the World Athletics Indoor Championships 2025 in the men’s 60m hurdles is 7.57s.
