Kangana Ranaut has announced that her much-talked-about film “Emergency” will premiere on Netflix on March 17 , marking its digital debut. The actress shared the news on her Instagram Stories, reposting a fan-made collage featuring her alongside former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. She captioned the post simply, “17th March releasing on Netflix.”
The film, which had its theatrical release on January 17 , grossed ₹21.65 crore in India, according to Sacnilk.com. Directed by and starring Kangana Ranaut, “Emergency” portrays the politically charged period of the 1975-77 Emergency , a defining chapter in Indian history. The narrative delves into the events surrounding the declaration of the Emergency and its far-reaching consequences.

Kangana takes on the role of Indira Gandhi , bringing to life the complexities of one of India’s most controversial leaders. The supporting cast includes acclaimed actors such as Anupam Kher , Shreyas Talpade , Vishak Nair , Milind Soman , and the late Satish Kaushik .
Despite its eventual release, “Emergency” faced numerous challenges before hitting theaters. The film encountered delays, censorship issues, and protests from Sikh organizations over concerns about its historical portrayal. In August last year, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) issued a legal notice to the producers, alleging that the film misrepresented Sikh history and included content deemed objectionable and potentially “anti-Sikh.”
Despite these hurdles, “Emergency” is now set to reach a wider audience through its OTT release on Netflix. Fans and viewers can look forward to experiencing this historical drama from the comfort of their homes starting March 17 .
