King Cup International Badminton Open 2024: Lakshya Sen rallies to beat Angus Ng Ka Long in opener

Lakshya Sen advanced to the semi-finals of the inaugural King Cup International Badminton Open 2024 in Shenzhen, China, with his first-ever victory over Hong Kong’s Angus Ng Ka Long.
Sen, ranked 12th in the world, overcame a first-game loss to defeat the world No. 17 Ng 10-21, 21-13, 21-13. This win breaks a three-match losing streak for Sen against Ng, their last encounter being at the 2023 Malaysia Masters, which Ng won.
The King Cup, launched by two-time Olympic champion Lin Dan, is an exclusive men’s singles tournament featuring eight players. It is not part of the BWF calendar and does not offer ranking points.

In the semi-final, Sen will face 18-year-old Chinese junior world champion Hu Zhe An, who defeated former world champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore. Other notable players in the tournament include Paris 2024 silver medalist and reigning world champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand, Denmark’s world No. 2 Anders Antonsen, Frenchman Alex Lanier, and China’s Wang Zi Jun. The tournament uses a single-elimination format.
A special exhibition match between legends Lin Dan and Taufik Hidayat is also scheduled for Saturday.
