Commonwealth Games champion Lakshya Sen is set to face top international competition at the inaugural King Cup International Badminton Open 2024, held in Shenzhen, People’s Republic of China, from December 27th to 29th.
This new tournament, launched by Chinese badminton legend and two-time Olympic gold medalist Lin Dan, will feature eight elite men’s singles players vying for the title. It’s important to note that the King Cup is not a part of the BWF calendar and does not offer ranking points.

The competition boasts a star-studded lineup, including:
- Kunlavut Vitidsarn (Thailand): Paris 2024 silver medalist, reigning world champion, and world No. 5.
- Anders Antonsen (Denmark): World No. 2 and the highest-ranked player in the tournament.
- Lakshya Sen (India): World No. 12 and a Paris 2024 semi-finalist.
- Loh Kean Yew (Singapore): 2021 world champion.
- Angus Ng Ka Long (Hong Kong China)
- Alex Lanier (France)
- Hu Zhe An and Wang Zi Jun (China): Two 18-year-old local players.
Lakshya Sen will face Angus Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong China in his quarter-final match on Friday. The tournament will use a single-elimination format, consisting of a total of 10 matches.
A special exhibition match on Sunday will feature a showdown between legends Lin Dan and Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat. Lin Dan is a two-time Olympic gold medalist (Beijing 2008 and London 2012), while the retired Taufik Hidayat is the Athens 2004 Olympic champion.
