Punjab Local Bodies Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh conducted a comprehensive review meeting at the Municipal Corporation Patiala office to evaluate ongoing development projects and infrastructure improvements in the city. The meeting was attended by key dignitaries, including Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh , MLA Ajitpal Singh Kohli (Patiala Urban) , Mayor Kundan Gogia , Chairman of Improvement Trust Megh Chand Shermajra , AAP Urban President Tejinder Mehta , Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajat Obrai , and other senior officials.
Focus on Basic Amenities and Urban Transformation
During the meeting, Dr. Ravjot Singh emphasized the need for significant improvements in essential civic amenities such as cleanliness, beautification, road construction, street lighting, water supply, and sewage management. He instructed officials to collaborate closely with councillors to ensure timely completion of ward-level projects and announced that he would personally review the progress of all initiatives after one month.
The Minister reiterated the Punjab Government’s commitment to transforming urban infrastructure and ensuring better facilities for citizens. He stressed the importance of time-bound delivery of services and urged officials to prioritize citizen-centric governance.

Key Directives Issued by Dr. Ravjot Singh
- 24×7 Canal Water Supply Project:
Dr. Ravjot Singh directed officials to expedite the implementation of the 24×7 canal water supply project and ensure prompt repairs of roads dug up for pipeline installation. Expressing concern over delays, MLA Ajitpal Singh Kohli urged action against L&T and other stakeholders responsible for slowing down the project. - Sewerage System Improvements:
The Minister took serious note of irregularities in the laying of sewer lines near Vadi Nadi and Chotti Nadi , summoning officials from the Sewerage Board for an explanation. He also called for additional manpower for sewer cleaning and emphasized the procurement of advanced machinery like super-suction and jet-suction machines to enhance the sewerage system’s efficiency. - Solid Waste Management:
Dr. Ravjot Singh reviewed the functioning of Material Recovery Facility (MRF) centers and solid waste management plants. He instructed officials to adopt scientific waste disposal methods, reduce dumping sites, and improve garbage collection from households to ensure daily street cleaning. - Street Lighting and Urban Aesthetics:
To improve visibility and safety, the Minister ordered an urgent audit of the agency managing super-suction machines and emphasized the repair of old streetlights and faster installation of new ones. He also directed officials to beautify entry points, maintain road dividers, and install adequate lighting to address parking and traffic congestion issues while enhancing the city’s aesthetics. - Pre-Monsoon Preparations:
In anticipation of the upcoming monsoon season, Dr. Ravjot Singh instructed officials to clean drains, sewer lines, and rainwater outlets, check for water supply leaks, and ensure the availability of necessary machinery to prevent urban flooding. - Stray Dog Sterilization Program:
To tackle the rising issue of dog bites, the Minister directed the Municipal Corporation to intensify the sterilization program, aiming for a higher daily count of sterilized stray dogs.
Strengthening Civic Services and Accountability
Dr. Ravjot Singh urged officials to work in close coordination with newly elected councillors to provide improved civic amenities, particularly for residents of slum areas. He warned that any negligence in executing infrastructure projects would result in strict action.
The Minister also directed the Municipal Corporation to explore new revenue sources and conduct a physical verification of sanitation workers’ attendance to ensure efficiency in cleanliness efforts.
