Tokyo 2020 bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain made a triumphant return to competitive boxing, winning the gold medal in the women’s 75kg category at the National Games 2025 in Uttarakhand on Friday. This was Borgohain’s first bout since the Paris 2024 Olympics. She defeated Pranshu Rathore of Chandigarh 5-0 by unanimous decision. Borgohain also won gold in the same weight class at the 2022 National Games in Gujarat.
Fellow Olympian Shiva Thapa secured a silver medal in the men’s 63.5kg division. Thapa, who competed at the London 2012 Olympics and is a six-time Asian champion and Arjuna Awardee, narrowly lost to Vanshaj of Services Sports Central Board 4-3 in the final. Thapa had won bronze at the 2022 National Games.

Junior world champion Ankushita Boro made history by winning her third consecutive National Games gold medal in the women’s 66kg welterweight category, defeating Kajal of Uttarakhand 5-0.
Other notable gold medal winners included Mandengbam Singh of Services (men’s 51kg flyweight), Jaismine Lamboria (women’s 60kg), Nivedita Kari of Uttarakhand (women’s 50kg flyweight), and Divya Panwar of Madhya Pradesh (women’s 54kg bantamweight).
All 13 boxing categories (men’s and women’s) concluded on Friday. The National Games 2025, which began on January 28, will continue until February 14.
