CHANDIGARH, SEPTEMBER 5
In a proud moment for Punjab’s military tradition, four cadets from the state’s premier Armed Forces Preparatory Institutes have been commissioned as Lieutenants in the Indian Army.
Two women cadets from the Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute (AFPI) for Girls and two cadets from the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Armed Forces Preparatory Institute (MRSAFPI) received their commissions during a grand Passing Out Parade at the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai) on Saturday. The parade was reviewed by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, PVSM, AVSM & VSM.
Among the newly commissioned officers, Lady Cadet Deepnoor has joined the prestigious Army Aviation Corps, while Lady Cadet Diksha Dhiman has been commissioned into the Army Ordnance Corps.
Deepnoor is the daughter of Sukhbir Singh, Professor at Sardar Beant Singh State University, Gurdaspur, and Ramanpreet Kaur, a government school teacher. Diksha is the daughter of Pawan Kumar, a businessman from Pathankot, and Smt. Indu.
The two MRSAFPI cadets also brought laurels to Punjab. Cadet Ishpreet Singh Dhillon, son of late Dr. Paramjit Singh Dhillon and Smt. Santosh Kaur, has joined the Regiment of Artillery. Lieutenant Arsh Singh, son of Maj Gen P.S. Sandhu (Retd), has entered the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Branch, carrying forward his family’s military tradition as a second-generation Army officer.

Aman Arora Congratulates Newly Commissioned Officers
Congratulating the four newly commissioned officers, Punjab Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training Minister Aman Arora said that their achievement would inspire thousands of young people across the state to pursue a career in the Armed Forces.
He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab government remains committed to supporting and guiding youth aspiring to become commissioned officers in the Armed Forces.
Mai Bhago AFPI Hails Achievement
Maj Gen Jasbir Singh Sandhu, AVSM (Retd), Director, Mai Bhago AFPI, expressed happiness over the achievement and said the milestone would further strengthen the institute’s mission of preparing more daughters of Punjab for commissioning as officers in the Armed Forces.
He congratulated the newly commissioned officers and wished them success in their military careers.
15 More MRSAFPI Cadets Clear SSB
Maj Gen Ajay H. Chauhan, VSM (Retd), Director, MRSAFPI, congratulated the new officers and urged them to uphold the ideals of the nation and make their alma mater proud.
He further revealed that 15 more MRSAFPI cadets have cleared the Services Selection Board (SSB) and are awaiting their joining letters for the December 2026 course.
The commissioning of the four cadets marks another significant achievement for Punjab’s Armed Forces Preparatory Institutes and highlights their growing contribution towards preparing young men and women for leadership roles in the Indian Army.
