Indian badminton players HS Prannoy and Malvika Bansod have reached the round of 16 at the Malaysia Open 2025 in Kuala Lumpur. Prannoy defeated Canada’s Brian Yang, while Bansod overcame local favorite Goh Jin Wei, a former Youth Olympic and two-time junior world champion.

Prannoy’s match against Yang spanned two days due to a leaking roof at the Stadium Axiata Arena on Tuesday. Prannoy won the first game 21-12 before play was interrupted with him leading 6-3 in the second. Yang rallied to take an 11-9 lead before the match was postponed. Upon resumption on Wednesday, Yang won the second game 21-17, but Prannoy secured the victory in the deciding third game, 21-15.
Malvika Bansod secured a more straightforward win against Goh Jin Wei, winning 21-15, 21-16.
In men’s doubles, Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy (Sat-Chi), seeded seventh in the BWF Super 1000 tournament, dominated their opening match against Chinese Taipei’s Tang Kai-Wei and Lu Ming-che, winning 21-10, 16-21, 21-5. Sat-Chi will now face Malaysia’s Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub and Tan Wee Kiong in the next round.
