MRSAFPI Hosts Grand Opening of Tri-Services Display

-Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan unveils scaled-down replica of stealth guided missile destroyer “Exposure to military equipment will foster leadership and teamwork in cadets”: Aman Arora

Chandigarh, December 8, 2025

The Maharaja Ranjit Singh Armed Forces Preparatory Institute (MRSAFPI), Mohali, marked a historic milestone with the inauguration of a scaled-down model of the Indian Navy’s Kolkata-Class Stealth Guided Missile Destroyer INS Kochi (D64). The model, gifted by the Indian Navy on Navy Day 2025, was unveiled by Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan, AVSM, NM, Vice Chief of the Naval Staff.

This addition completes the Tri-Services Military Heritage Display at MRSAFPI, which now showcases major equipment from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, creating an inspiring environment for cadets. The institute takes pride in its legacy, with 22 alumni currently serving as commissioned officers in the Indian Navy, including two from the latest Passing Out Parade at the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala.

Speaking to MRSAFPI cadets and students of Shemrock Senior Secondary School, Vice Admiral Vatsayan highlighted Punjab’s maritime contributions, citing luminaries like former Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Karambir Singh. He underscored the Indian Navy’s pivotal role in safeguarding national maritime interests and projecting India’s global stature.

Punjab’s Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training Minister, Aman Arora, emphasized that exposure to real-life military equipment and interactions with senior officers like Vice Admiral Vatsayan will cultivate leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills among cadets. He added that such initiatives instil discipline, patriotism, and a commitment to service, preparing cadets for distinguished careers in the Armed Forces.  Arora reaffirmed the Punjab Government’s commitment, under Chief Minister Bhagwant  Mann, to provide aspiring youth with resources and opportunities to join the defence services.

Major General Ajay H. Chauhan, VSM (Retd), Director of MRSAFPI, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Indian Navy for the generous gift. He reiterated the institute’s dedication to grooming future naval officers who will bring glory to the nation, Punjab, and the Indian Navy.
