Mumbai has clinched the Irani Trophy 2024 under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane. The team’s bowlers and batsmen put up a stellar performance.
The Irani Trophy 2024 match was played between Mumbai and the Rest of India. Although the match ended in a draw, Mumbai emerged victorious based on their first innings lead. Mumbai had scored a massive 537 runs in their first innings, with Sarfaraz Khan scoring a double century and Ajinkya Rahane playing a brilliant knock. The Rest of India could only manage 416 runs in their first innings, giving Mumbai a lead of 121 runs. Mumbai then declared their second innings at 329.

Sarfaraz Khan’s Double Century
Sarfaraz Khan was the star performer for Mumbai in the first innings, scoring a magnificent 222 runs off 286 balls. Captain Ajinkya Rahane contributed with a well-made 97 runs. Shreyas Iyer and Tanush Kotian also played crucial innings of 64 runs each. These performances helped Mumbai post a mammoth total of 537 runs.
Abhinav Easwaran’s Century Goes in Vain
For the Rest of India, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad failed to make a significant impact, scoring only 9 runs. Abhinav Easwaran scored a brilliant 191 runs, but his efforts went in vain. Dhruv Jurel also contributed with a knock of 93 runs. Ishan Kishan, who was making a comeback to the team, could manage only 38 runs. The rest of the Rest of India batting lineup failed to deliver, and they were bowled out for 416 runs.

Mumbai Breaks 27-Year Drought
In their second innings, Mumbai’s Prithvi Shaw scored 76 runs. However, Tanush Kotian stole the limelight with a century, scoring 114 runs off 150 balls. Mohit Awasthi also contributed with 51 runs. Mumbai declared their second innings at 329 runs.
Mumbai has won the Irani Trophy after a gap of 27 years. Under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane, who is currently out of the Indian team, Mumbai has achieved a remarkable feat. The last time Mumbai won the Irani Trophy was in 1997.
