New Power Minister Sond Reviews Infrastructure, Orders Faster Upgradation Across Punjab

Tarunpreet Singh Sond today formally assumed charge as the Power Minister at the headquarters of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) in Patiala in the presence of senior officers and departmental officials. Besides the Power portfolio, he is already handling the departments of Tourism & Cultural Affairs, Labour, Hospitality, and Rural Development & Panchayats.

Soon after taking charge, the Minister chaired a high-level review meeting with senior officials of the Power Department and PSPCL to review preparations for the upcoming paddy transplantation season. During the meeting, he directed officials to ensure uninterrupted and adequate electricity supply to farmers across the state so that agricultural activities continue smoothly without any disruption.

Sond stated that the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is fully committed to protecting the interests of farmers and ensuring seamless power supply during the crucial paddy season, which plays a vital role in Punjab’s agrarian economy. He added that the government has been consistently working to strengthen the power sector and improve consumer services across the state.

Reviewing the current infrastructure, the Minister instructed officials to accelerate the maintenance and upgradation of power infrastructure, particularly in rural and village areas, to reduce power cuts and improve the reliability and quality of electricity supply. He also directed the department to ensure the timely replacement and enhancement of transformers, transmission lines, and other essential equipment wherever required.

The Minister further emphasized the importance of efficient monitoring systems and prompt redressal of electricity-related public grievances. He asked officials to maintain strong coordination at all levels to address issues on priority during the peak power demand season.

Reiterating the government’s commitment, Tarunpreet Singh Sond said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Mann, the Punjab Government is continuously working towards modernizing the power infrastructure and providing improved services to domestic, agricultural, and industrial consumers across the state.

Among those present during the meeting were Chairman-cum-Managing Director Dr. Basant Garg, Director Distribution Dr. Inderpal Singh, Director Finance S.K. Beri, and Director Commercial Er. Harsharan Kaur Trehan, along with several other senior officials.
