–Strict Action Against Negligent Officials: Mundian
Chandigarh/Mohali, March 6
Reaffirming the Punjab government’s commitment, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, to ensure planned urban development and deliver world-class facilities to the public, Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardip Singh Mundian has directed departmental officials to establish new urban estates across various cities in the state.
During a review meeting of development authorities and the Department of Town and Country Planning at PUDA Bhavan in Mohali, Mundian instructed officials to work with dedication and integrity. He emphasized the need to create new urban estates not only in major cities but also in smaller towns, ensuring the acquisition of land as required. This initiative aims to provide affordable housing options and prevent people from being compelled to purchase property in unauthorized colonies.
Mundian stressed that the government’s goal is to deliver timely and corruption-free services to the public. He issued a stern warning that negligence by any official would not be tolerated, urging all staff, from junior to senior levels, to perform their duties responsibly and honestly.
While reviewing properties under the jurisdiction of development authorities, Mundian directed officials to initiate e-auctions for properties starting next week. This move will enable individuals to purchase property for housing or business purposes. He emphasized the importance of conducting the auction process with complete transparency and fairness. Additionally, he addressed defaulted projects and called for strict action against defaulters.

During the meeting, the Minister also reviewed master plans and local planning areas notified by the department for urban development across the state.
Principal Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Vikas Garg, instructed officials to implement the government’s policy of minimizing public inconvenience. He urged them to accelerate efforts to bring all remaining offline services online, complementing the department’s existing digital services.
The meeting was attended by Special Secretary Apneet Riyat, PUDA Chief Administrator and Director of Town and Country Planning Neeru Katial Gupta, GAMADA Chief Administrator Vishesh Sarangal, GLADA Chief Administrator Sandeep Kumar, PDA-cum-BDA Chief Administrator Manisha Rana, JDA-cum-ADA Chief Administrator Nitesh Kumar Jain, and other senior officials from development authorities.
