India’s decision to bat first backfired spectacularly as they were skittled for their lowest-ever home total against New Zealand in Bengaluru. The top-ranked Test team in the ICC World Test Championship suffered a shocking collapse, bowled out for just 46 runs.
New Zealand’s pace duo, Tim Southee and Matt Henry, exploited the overcast conditions to devastating effect. Henry, who claimed a five-wicket haul, including the crucial wicket of Rohit Sharma, played a key role in India’s demise. This was the fourth five-wicket haul of Henry’s Test career, taking him to 100 Test wickets in his 26th Test.

India’s batting lineup crumbled, with five of the top eight batters being dismissed for ducks. Only Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal managed to reach double figures.
