NHM Employees’ Strike Causes Health Service Chaos in Punjab

Patiala, 01 December

The ongoing strike by all employees of the National Health Mission (NHM) Punjab has badly affected healthcare services throughout the state.

Frustrated by the Punjab government’s repeated failure to honor its promises, NHM employees have been forced to go on strike. They have warned that if their pending salaries are not released immediately, they will intensify the agitation in the coming days by gheraoing (surrounding/protesting outside) the office of the Mission Director, NHM Punjab.

Date: 1 December 2025

Employees working under the National Health Mission in Punjab’s health department for a long time observed a complete strike today (first day) across the entire state as part of the protest program announced by the NHM Employees Union Punjab. The strike was called to highlight their legitimate demands, get their pending salaries of the last two months released immediately, and “wake the Punjab government from its deep slumber.”

On the very first day of this statewide strike, public health services were severely disrupted. NHM staff across Punjab completely halted all kinds of online and offline reporting, daily OPD services, and other routine departmental work. Strong enthusiasm and participation in the statewide strike were witnessed in every district of Punjab.

Speaking on the occasion, senior leaders of the NHM Employees Union Punjab — Sandeep Kaur (Barnala), Gulshan Sharma (Faridkot), and Dr. Wahid (Malerkotla) — said in a joint statement:

“Employees working on contract under the National Health Mission have not received salaries for the past two months. As a result, they are facing severe financial hardship and mental stress due to the indifferent attitude of the department and the government.

The Aam Aadmi Party, which made tall promises before coming to power, is now running away from fulfilling those commitments. By neither releasing employees’ salaries nor addressing their main demands, the Punjab government has failed on every front.”

Senior leader Amandeep Singh Dinesh Garg (Patiala), while addressing the media, said that due to the government’s continuous neglect, the NHM Employees Union Punjab has been compelled to announce a sharp struggle, including today’s strike.

He made it clear that the complete responsibility for the disruption in health services caused by the NHM employees’ strike lies with the government and the department.

The union leaders warned in strong words: “If the government and the department do not immediately release the pending salaries, the union will intensify the agitation in the coming days and gherao the office of the Mission Director, National Health Mission Punjab.”

They further demanded the immediate release of all pending salaries and warned that if the government does not urgently resolve their legitimate financial demands on a priority basis, the NHM Union will protest and surround the government at every turn.

Present on the occasion were Dr. Divjot Singh, Dr. Kulwinder Singh, Mrs. Monica Sharma, Mrs. Hema Ravel, Mrs. Tripta Rani, Mrs. Jasbir Kaur, Mrs. Sonika, Mrs. Manpreet Kaur, Mrs. Manisha, Mrs. Asha, Amit Jain, Vivek Bhagat, Gurdev Singh, Vijender Kumar, Lovepreet Singh, and other leaders and employees.
